| HAVERHILL FARMS 2013 SUMMER CAMP PROGRAM | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Our Summer Day Camp program is open to children age seven to sixteen. The program offers campers the opportunity to experience first-hand the joys and responsibilities of a relationship with a horse - goals we have been committed to for over forty years. First and foremost, we emphasize safety as campers learn to respect horses and avoid unnecessary risks when working with them on the ground and while riding. We channel our camper's natural enthusiasm into true horsemanship by supervising them closely as they ride and care for our school horses - taking every opportunity to explain why horses do what they do and how to respond to their signals and actions. We are proud of the fact that we teach riding skills in a way that has produced more professionals than any other facility in Michigan. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| DAILY SCHEDULE OF CAMP ACTIVITIES Camp starts at 10 a.m. and ends at 3 p.m. Monday through Friday. Every day begins with a one-hour riding lesson. This is followed by a clinic covering a particular aspect of horse and stable management. Topics include safety in handling, proper grooming, saddling and bridaling care of tack and equipment, feeding and stall cleaning, horse health care and first aid. The afternoon is divided between a second riding lesson and a supervised hands-on opportunity to apply the lessons learned in the morning clinic or take part in a craft activity. In addition, campers will be able to watch a farrier at work and meet a veterinarian, horse dentist and equine professionals at some time during camp. |

| LUNCH Campers bring their own lunch; beverages will be provided. A refrigerator is available in our air conditioned viewing room. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| HORSE SHOW AND PIZZA PARTY At the end of each session, family and friends are encouraged to come and watch their campers participate in an informal horse show. The show gives the campers a chance to demonsrate the skills they have learned and get the feel of a real horse competition. Ribbons and certificates are awarded to each camper who completes the program. A pizza party is held after the show for the campers, family and guests. |
